An image forming apparatus includes: an image formation section, a display section, an abnormal image information reception section, a cause specification section, and an operation control section. The abnormal image information reception section causes display of the image data at an operation section and also receives, from a user, specification of a position and a kind of an abnormal image appearing on recording paper on which an image has been formed by the image formation section. The cause specification section specifies a cause of the appearance of the abnormal image based on the position and the kind of the abnormal image received by the abnormal image information reception section.
