The embodiment of the invention discloses an index building method and an index building device. According to the index building method, a first index database is pre-built aiming at data of a target data type, and the first index database is used for storing the data of the target data type within a preset time period. The index building method comprises the steps of obtaining the data of the target data type from the Internet; storing the obtained data of the target data type into a cache; reading the data of the target data type stored in the cache at every preset time; adding the read data of the target data type into the first index database; and building an index aiming at the first index database according to the data of the target data type stored in the first index database. With the application of the index building method provided by the embodiment of the invention, the index building time can be reduced, and the data retrieval speed can be improved.
