Zusammenfassung:A discharge lamp obtained by adding an emitter other than thorium to a cathode inside a light-emitting tube, wherein the emitter is prevented from being excessively vaporized from the cathode and prematurely depleted, and efficient illumination is enabled even at start-up. A main body (31) of a cathode (3) is composed of a refractory metal material that does not contain thorium, and the tip (32) is composed of a refractory metal material containing an emitter (excepting thorium). Inside a sealed space (33) formed in the interior of the main body (31) and/or the tip (32) is embedded a sintered compact (34) containing an emitter (excepting thorium) that is higher in density than the emitter contained in the tip (32).
