The invention discloses a human existence detection method and apparatus based on infrared trigger image comparison. The method comprises the following steps: determining whether infrared energy in a monitoring scope is abruptly changed; if the infrared energy in the monitoring scope is abruptly changed, determining entry of a human, outputting human entry signals, and acquiring a current single-frame image as an original image P1: after predetermined time interval T1, acquiring a current single-frame image as a comparison image P2; through comparing the comparison image P2 with the original image P1, determining a difference value D of an image; determining whether the difference value D exceeds a first predetermined threshold DT; and if the difference value D exceeds the first predetermined threshold DT, determining existence of the human, and outputting human existence signals. According to the invention, through combination with infrared trigger and image comparison, existence of a moving human and a stationary human in a specific area scope can be detected, and the existence of the humans in the specific area scope can be accurately and efficiently detected.
