The cross connector can freely rotate in the first connection sleeve and the second connection sleeve, so that the wire rope connection device can be tightly attached to a pulley block and a spiral groove of a roller when the old wire rope is replaced with the new wire rope, the phenomenon of groove disengagement or groove jumping is avoided, and replacement between the old wire rope and the new wire rope is also facilitated. The invention further provides a method for replacing a crane wire rope.
