Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a method and driver assistance system for assisting a driver of a commercial vehicle, and specifically to a method used for assisting a driver of a commercial vehicle. The commercial vehicle (1, 9) is provided with at least one image acquisition device (5) in particular in the vehicle longitudinal direction (x) and in particular at least one camera. The method gets at least a size characteristic parameter and/or structure characteristic parameter and/or stowage characteristic parameter of the commercial vehicle (1, 9) in particular a trailer (1) and/or a two-wheeler/semitrailer (9) combined in the commercial vehicle from the obtained image (11) by using at least one image acquisition device (5) by means of an image processing device.
