The identity card ticket checking method comprises the steps that a ticket checking database downloads electronic ticket information from an electronic ticket database within a preset time before train departure; when a passenger swipes an identity card on a gate, the gate acquires the identity card information; the gate acquires ticket purchase information corresponding to the identity card according to the identity card information, and sends the identity card information, the ticket purchase information and the gate number of an automatic ticket checking server; the automatic ticket checking server queries the ticket checking database according to the identity card information, the ticket purchase information and the gate number, and sends a query result to the gate, wherein the identity card information, the ticket purchase information and the gate number are sent by the gate; and the gate determines whether the gate is opened to the release the passenger corresponding to the identity card according to the query result sent by the automatic ticket checking server. According to the identity card ticket checking method and system, which are provided by the invention, fast and reliable ticket checking is realized; the ticket checking speed is improved; and the phenomenon of passenger congestion at a passenger flow peak is avoided.
