The method comprises: after a file provider sets confidential content of a file, setting a confidential content protection mode; according to the confidential content protection mode, a restorable file protection device migrating the confidential content, wherein after the migration, the confidential content of original file content may be further replaced by substitute content; next, encrypting the confidential content by inputting an identity authentication key; if a user wants to open a protected file, requesting identity data of the user to be verified, wherein if the identity verification data is consistent with the identity authentication key, the restorable file protection device restores the original file content from the original file content from which the confidential content has been migrated and the confidential content; and if the identity confirmation data is inconsistent with the identity authentication key, opening the original file content from which the confidential content has been migrated, so as to realize confidentiality of electronic file protection, and to solve a problem that in the existing encryption technology restoration is not easy and use is not convenient.
