The invention concerns a display (1) for displaying a virtual image (9) in the field of vision (3) of a driver (5), said display (1) comprising: - an image generation device (11), and - at least one light sensor (13), said image generation device (11) being configured to produce, with said light sensor (13), a measurement of the ambient light in the area (15), called the ambient background, located in the direction where said image (9) forms in order to be able to adapt the brightness of said image (9) to said ambient background (15). The invention also concerns a device for generating images for such a display, said device comprising said sensor.
