Indicator detection device and indicator detection method

Provided is an indicator detection device that, by using just one indicator detection sensor, can detect the position indicated by indicators of differing types. An indicator detection sensor is used such that a plurality of first conductors and a plurality of second conductors disposed respectively in a mutually intersecting first direction and second direction are disposed opposing each other at a predetermined distance of spacing, and the position indicated by the indicator is detected by detecting the change in capacitance formed between the first conductors and second conductors on the basis of the change in the distance between the two conductors as a result of pressing by the indicator. A signal reception circuit that detects the reception signal from the indicator detection sensor has: a first mode that, on the basis of the change in the capacitance, detects pressed positions and approached positions to the indicator detection sensor by a first indicator having conductivity, and a second mode that, on the basis of the change in the capacitance, detects pressed positions of the indicator detection sensor by a second indicator not having conductivity.
