Zusammenfassung:The invention relates to an arrangement with a linearly structured device (1) having an optical waveguide cable (2) that runs along the linearly structured device (1) and the two ends of which are provided with a light transmission device and a light reception device (4, 6), respectively, with an associated evaluation device (7, 8), wherein the evaluation devices (7, 8) output an event signal (Se1, Se2) in the case of an event on the linearly structured device (1). In order to configure such an arrangement such that it can be used to reliably monitor the ascertainment of safety-relevant functions on a linearly structured device with an optical waveguide cable, the evaluation devices (7, 8) are designed such that their outputs (9, 10) output a distance signal (Se1, Se2) indicating the distance to the location of the event as an event signal. The outputs (9, 10) of the evaluation devices (7, 8) are connected to a common summator (12) in which the distance signals (Se1, Se2) are added to obtain a summed signal (Ss). The summator (12) has a checking device (14) arranged downstream of it that compares the summed signal (Ss) with a reference signal (Sbe; Sba) and outputs an error report (Sf) in the event of a difference between the summed signal (Ss) and the reference signal (Sbe; Sba). The invention also relates to a method for operating the linearly structured device.
