The message forwarding method comprises the steps of using a first network virtualization edge (NVE) to receive a first message sent by a first tenant end system (TES), wherein the destination IP address of the first message is the IP address of a second TES, the destination MAC address of the first message is the gateway MAC address corresponding to the first NVE, and the first TES and the second TES belong to the same three-layer VPN; using the first NVE to obtain the access VN ID of the first TES according to at least one of the port information for receiving the first message and the first message, and to obtain the three-layer VPN instance identifier of the first TES; using the first NVE to carry out the two-layer ending on the first message, searching a route forwarding table corresponding to the three-layer VPN instance identifier of the first TES to obtain a table item corresponding to the IP address of the second TES, and packaging the first message into a network virtualization overlays (NVO3) message according to the table item; using the first NVE to forward the NVO3 message to a second NVE via the three layers, and accessing the second TES in the second NVE.
