The invention relates to compositions comprising superhydrophilic amphiphilic copolymers and micellar thickeners. The invention provides compositions comprising the superhydrophilic amphiphilic copolymers, the micellar thickeners and cosmetically-acceptable or pharmaceutically-acceptable carriers. The copolymers have the following structure, wherein an '' SRU '' is a superhydrophilic repeat unit; an '' ARU is an amphiphilic repeat unit; s >= 2, a >0, s+a is between 4 and 50. The copolymer is selected from laurdimonium hydroxypropyl potato dextrin chloride and modified starch-based polysaccharide with a weight average molecular weight of below 200,000. The starch-based polysaccharide is selected from corn, wheat, rice, cassava, potato and sago. A hydrophobing agent is alkenyl succinic anhydride.
