The water heater comprises a body, a main controller and a preheating controller, wherein the main controller is arranged in the body, the preheating controller is connected with the main controller, the preheating controller generates preheating signals after being triggered and sends the preheating signals to the main controller, and the main controller starts a preheating water path of the water heater after receiving the preheating signals. The water heater can automatically preheat water in a water outlet pipeline without manual participation, and an intelligent preheating effect is achieved. The invention further provides a preheating control method of the water heater.
