The invention provides a method and device used for screening target user equipment. The method includes the steps that firstly, a lead code C sent by user equipment in the random access process is received, and the receiving power P of the lead code C is measured; secondly, the expected receiving power PEX of the lead code is determined; thirdly, whether the random access process of the use equipment sending the lead code C needs continuing tracked or not is determined according to the relation between P and PEX. The device is used for implementing the method. The method and device used for screening the target user equipment estimate whether the use equipment can become the possible target user equipment from the MSG1 message of the random access process, stop tracking non-target user equipment as early as possible, reduce processing loads of monitoring meters, improve data processing performance and meanwhile achieve the purpose of electricity conservation.
