Input device

The invention relates to an input device for inputting characters on a user interface by means of handwriting. The movement of an inputting means, in particular of a finger of a user, is detected and converted to an input pattern corresponding to the detected movement. The input pattern is compared with stored characters of a character set, and if the input pattern sufficiently matches one of the stored characters, said character is selected. Already during the input, the user receives acoustic feedback about the input process, wherein the acoustic feedback signal is output in a constant manner outside a defined edge area of the user interface and is output in an incremental or continuous manner at an decreasing distance from the edge in a defined edge area of the user interface.
