The method include the steps of determining an operating system running in the background, as a first operating system; acquiring inactive memory data of the first operating system; storing the inactive memory data of the first operating system into a preset compressed storage area in a compressed format. The application method and device has the advantages that the operating system running in the background uses less memory space and the problem that the space of the memory shared by two systems is insufficient is effectively solved.
