The handling device or forming machine comprises a control or regulating unit (2) for controlling the handling device or forming machine (1) and a operating device (3) connected with the control or regulating unit (2), wherein the operating device (3) has a casing (4}, one operating element (5) movable in a movement area (B) relative to the housing (4), and an adjusting device (6) for adjusting the operating element (5) relative to the housing (4), characterized by comprising a safety device (7) through which the movement area (B) can be covered, or by which a movement of the operating element (5) in the movement space (B) can be monitored and stoppable, or by whcih the operating element (5) and the adjusting device (6) can be decoupled.
