Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a method for producing aqueous solutions of vinyl lactam polymers and solids obtainable therefrom by drying, particularly polyvinylpyrrolidone. Said method is characterised in that one or more sulphur components, selected from the group consisting of sulphur dioxide, sulphuric acid and one or more sulphuric acid salts, are used to reduce residual monomers. The invention also relates to vinyl lactam polymers that can be obtained using said method and which have good storage stability, and to the use of same, products and preparations which contain or have been produced using these vinyl lactam polymers.
