Zusammenfassung:	A backlight device (illumination device) (12), provided with: an LED (light source) (17); a light guide plate (16) having an end surface facing the LED (17), the end surface facing the LED (17) being a light entry surface (16b) through which light from the LED (17) enters, and one plate surface being a light exit surface (16a) through which light exits; a chassis (14) for supporting another plate surface (16c) of the light guide plate (16), which is on the opposite side from the light exit surface (16a); an LED substrate (light source mounting member) (18) on which is mounted the LED (17), the LED substrate (18) having a bottom plate part (18b) extending so as to at least be parallel to the other plate surface (16c) of the light guide plate (16); and a light release member (19) disposed so as to extend parallel to a plate surface (18b1) of the bottom plate part (18b) and be in surface contact with the plate surface (18b1) of the bottom plate part (18b).
