The invention discloses an information transmission system and a method for an electronic device. The information transmission system for the electronic device comprises an infrared emission unit, an infrared reception unit, a coding unit in matching with the infrared emission unit, a decoding unit corresponding to the infrared reception unit, and a control unit used for controlling operation of the units above, wherein the infrared emission unit is in matching with the infrared reception unit to determine whether proximity of an object outside the electronic device exists, and when the infrared emission unit is employed to carry out information transmission, the coding unit is controlled by the control unit for coding to-be-transmitted information which is then transmitted through the infrared emission unit, and the infrared reception unit is used for receiving information transmitted by the external electronic device and transmitting the received information to the decoding unit for decoding.
