The composition comprises tetrasodium ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid accounting for 2%-6% of the total weight of the composition, at least one or more surfactants which are represented by (A)-(C) and account for 15%-70% of the total weight of the composition and the balance of water. The invention further discloses a preparation method and an application of the thickening composition. The composition is specially applied to a sodium salt of 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxy acetic acid aqueous solution and used for replacing conventional aids without thickening effects, the adhesion of the solution to leaf surfaces can be improved, medicine losses caused by mutual collision and friction of plant leaves due to rain washing and wind blowing can be reduced, and the usage effect can be improved.
