The invention relates to a controller for a pressure regulating valve within a motor vehicle, preferably for a pressure regulating valve which sets the oil pressure, wherein a signal which corresponds to the pressure (Psetp) to be set can be fed to the controller (S), and the controller (S) has a signal connection on the output side to a pressure regulating valve (DRV) for the fluid to be adjusted, wherein the application of current to the pressure regulating valve (DRV) takes place via a PWM signal which is generated by the controller (S), and the controller (S) is designed such that before the respective current for the pressure (Psetp) which is to be set is applied to the pressure regulating valve (DRV) the coil of the pressure regulating valve (DRV) is over-excited with a relatively high current for a period of time.
