Zusammenfassung:The invention relates to a velocity-regulating system for motor vehicles, having an electronic control unit (SG) that generates control signals (a, a+, b) to regulate the velocity of the motor vehicle in order to maintain a predefined desired velocity and/or to maintain a predefined distance from a target object travelling in front, and having a control element (T1, T2, T3), an operation being performed that influences the regulation of the velocity when said control element is actuated. According to the invention, the control element is configured as a touch-sensitive button (T1, T2) which, when the button (T1, T2) is pressed (p12, p22), generates a first operation that influences the regulation of the velocity and, when the button (T1, T2) is touched (p11, p21), generates a second operation that influences the active regulation of the velocity for the period during which the button (T1, T2) is touched. Once the button is no longer being touched, the original velocity regulation is continued.
