The filter element (12) may include filter media (22) extending circumferentially around and longitudinally along a longitudinal axis (24) of the filter element (12). The filter element (12) may also include pilot structure (40) attached to the filter media (22) and configured to locate the filter element (12). The pilot structure (40) may include an axial cross-section that includes at least one of a noncircular feature or an asymmetrical feature relative to the longitudinal axis (24).
