Systems and methods for preventing data loss

Methods and systems for preventing data loss in storage systems are provided. One method includes detecting that a storage device in a plurality of storage devices is experiencing a malfunction and determining the type of malfunction. The method further includes selecting a SMART rebuilding technique, a normal rebuilding technique, a data migration technique, or a user data backup technique to preserve the data in the storage device based on the determined type of the malfunction and performing the selected technique on the storage device. One system includes a plurality of storage devices configured to store data in a plurality of data addresses and a processor configured to perform the above method. Physical computer storage mediums used for a computer program product method for preventing a loss of data in a storage system are also provided. One physical computer storage medium includes computer code for performing the above method.
