Zusammenfassung:The invention provides an improved method (1) for in-band management of a network attached storage environment. The method comprises the steps that a client (100) is connected via a standard network attached storage protocol (310) to a network attached storage system (300) using existing authorization and authentication procedures; advanced management functions are exposed to the client (100) via a special file system structure over the standard network attached storage protocol (310); the client (100) uses existing standard network attached storage protocol functions on the special file system structure to retrieve and to invoke the advanced management functions, wherein a feedback channel is provided for returning result data to the client (100) using the standard network attached storage protocol (310).
