The embodiment of the invention provides a media file quality upgrading method. The method comprises the steps: obtaining a file identifier of a local media file, wherein the field identifier is used for uniquely identifying the media file; sending a downloading request to a server when confirming that the tone quality of the local media file is lower than that of an online media file corresponding to the server, wherein the downloading request contains the file identifier of the obtained local media file; and receiving the updated media file sent by the server, and updating the local media file by using the updated media file, wherein the tone quality of the updated media file is higher than that of the local media file.
