Disclosed is a pneumatic tyre for heavy load vehicle wheels, comprising: a carcass structure (101), a belt structure (105) applied in a radially outer position with respect to the carcass structure (101), and a tread band (106); the belt structure (105) comprises at least one reinforcing layer (105c) incorporating a plurality of reinforcing cords arranged substantially along the circumferential direction; the belt structure (105) further comprises a first main belt layer (105a) and a second main belt layer (105b) wherein the first main belt layer comprises a first plurality of metal cords inclined at a first angle and the second main belt layer comprises a second plurality of metal cords (105m) inclined at a second angle; the metal cords (105m) of the first and second plurality of metal cords comprise a plurality of filaments having a diameter not greater than 0.30 mm and have a diameter not greater than 1.30 mm.
