In 1980, 9.02 million televisions are owned by Chinese people and the ownership progressively increases by 10-20 million annually. The number of color televisions owned by Chinese people is 185 million at the end of 1990, and is 400 million in 2009. Generally, a television is used for 6-8 years, and then 200 million televisions fall into disuse annually. After metal devices in the televisions are removed and metals are recovered, a large number of displays are thrown away. The displays not only occupy large spaces, but also can release toxic substances and seriously pollute the environment if the displays are broken by accident.
