Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a device, comprising a camera unit (10), which is used to record images of the exterior area of a motor vehicle, and a cover element (30), which can be moved from a closed position (1) to an open position (2) by means of a drive (50), wherein the camera unit (10) is behind the cover element (30) and inaccessible from outside in the closed position (1) of the cover element (30) and images can be recorded in the open position (2) of the cover element (30). For this purpose, the cover element (30) has an outer surface (31) facing away from the camera unit (10), and the drive (50) interacts with such a mechanism that the outer surface (31) is always in the exterior area (6) of the motor vehicle in each position of the cover element (30) during the movement of the cover element (30) between the closed position (1) and the open position (2).
