Zusammenfassung:A method of producing microcrystalline cellulose comprising the step of chlorinating pretreated fibers of empty fruit bunches of oil palm which has reduced oil content to acquire holocellulose followed by an alkaline extraction of said holocellulose to produce alpha-cellulose. The alpha-cellulose is then treated with an acid to form a hydrolysate mixture. Neutralizing the hydrolysate mixture affords microcrystalline cellulose.
