The method includes the following steps: step A. enabling dipyridyl ruthenium complex crude products to be dissolved in a mixed solvent by mixing and heating, forming saturated solution, and removing insoluble impurities by filtering while the solution is hot, wherein the mixed solvent contains high-solubility solvent and low-solubility solvent; step B. slowly cooling to room temperature, and then freezing for gradual crystallization; and step C. filtering, drying and obtaining ruthenium complex products. The method has the advantages of being simple and easy to implement, suitable for large-scale production, high in yield, low in cost, not time-consuming and the like.
