The method includes the steps of opening two sound source detection units to detect external environment sound after the electronic device detects an incident, analyzing the distance from the external environment sound to the electronic device and the composition of the external environment sound, and switching ringing modes of the electronic device according to the distance from the external environment sound to the electronic device and the composition of the external environment sound. The automatic ringing mode switching method and the electronic device thereof can avoid the phenomenon that a bell rings loudly in a quiet situation or in the occasions of a meeting and the like, or avoid the phenomena that ringing sound can not be heard in noisy environment and the like. Accordingly, the needs of users for ringing effects can be satisfied.
