The invention provides an overheat protection method and an apparatus of network communication equipment. The method comprises detecting the thermal parameters of the network communication equipment, the thermal parameters including one or more of temperature, current and power; acquiring the priority of a service allowed to stop and corresponding to the thermal parameters according to the corresponding relationship between the thermal parameters and the service priority; and closing or resetting a MAC (media access control) module and a PHY (physical layer) module corresponding to the priority of the service allowed to stop according to the corresponding relationship between the service priority and the MCA module and the PHY module. The apparatus comprises a sensor module and a processor module. According to the scheme provided by the invention, the method can effectively solve the problem of data loss possibly caused by directly realizing power off protection in the prior art.
