Sensor element for detecting gas characteristic in exhaust gas of combustion engine

The invention relates to a method for manufacturing sensor element for detecting temperature and oxygen concentration in exhaust gas of combustion engine. The method involves forming inner solid electrolyte layers (12,14,16) which comprise stabilized zirconium dioxide with yttrium oxide. The exterior layers (18,20) made of yttrium oxide containing material are formed on the inner solid electrolyte layers. The proportion of yttrium oxide in the exterior layer is higher than that of the inner solid electrolyte layer. Common sintering of the inner solid electrolyte layers and exterior layers is carried out. An independent claim is included for sensor element.
