The invention provides a reproducing apparatus and a reproducing method. The reproducing apparatus includes: a storing unit in which data is accumulated; a readout control unit that controls readout of the data from the storing unit; a cache that temporarily stores the data read out by the readout control unit; and a data transmission and reception control unit that reads out the data stored in the cache and outputs the data to an external apparatus on the basis of a data acquisition request input from the external apparatus, wherein the readout control unit reads out the data from the storing unit and outputs the data to the cache while increasing stepwise a size of the data to be read out from the storing unit from a first size, which is a minimum size set in advance, to a second size, which is a maximum size set in advance.
