The invention relates to a method and a system for recognizing faces shot by multiple cameras. The method comprises the following steps: comparing the similarities of a first characteristic value of a face picture of each person in a first storage unit and a third characteristic value of a face picture of each person in a third storage unit, if the similarity is more than a preset threshold value, the face pictures are judged as the face pictures of the same person; comparing the similarities of a second characteristic value of the face picture of each person in a second storage unit and a third characteristic value of an unmarked face picture of each person in the third storage unit, if the similarity is more than the preset threshold value, the face pictures are judged as the face pictures of the same person.
