The invention provides a method and a system for transmitting a reference signal. The method comprises the following steps of: aiming at an advanced long-term evolution system adopting a normal cycle prefix, setting a mapping pattern only suitable for a frame structure 2 as a main mapping pattern and setting a mapping pattern which is simultaneously suitable for a frame structure 1 and the frame structure 2 as an auxiliary mapping pattern; judging whether a reference signal conflicts or not, if not, preferably adopting the main mapping pattern to map a channel state indication reference signal (CSI-RS) on the whole system wideband and transmitting the mapped CSI-RS, and if yes, preferably adopting the main mapping pattern for mapping the CSI-RS at the non-conflicting position and transmitting the mapped CSI-RS; and adopting the auxiliary mapping pattern for mapping the CSI-RS at the conflicting position and transmitting the mapped CSI-RS.
