The invention discloses a coating for stereo photographic paper and a preparation method thereof. The coating comprises the following raw material constituents in percentage by weight: 30-40% of styrene-acrylic resin, 10-20% of calcined kaolin, 40-57% of deionized water, 0.2-0.4% of antistatic agent, 0.1-0.3% of defoaming agent and 2-3% of ammonia water. The preparation method comprises the following steps of: firstly, dissolving the styrene-acrylic resin in the deionized water in proportion and adding the ammonia water to prepare a water-soluble modified resin solution; secondly, adding the calcined kaolin into the water-soluble modified resin solution in proportion, and dispersing and grinding to obtain a semifinished product; and finally, adding the defoaming agent and the antistatic agent into the semifinished product in proportion and evenly mixing to obtain the coating disclosed by the invention.
