Process for production of 1, 2, 3, 4-tetrachlorohexafluorobutane

Disclosed is a process for producing 1, 2, 3, 4-tetrachlorohexafluorobutane on an industrial scale, at low cost, with high efficiency, and at high purity. The process for producing 1, 2, 3, 4-tetrachlorohexafluorobutane is characterized by comprising the steps of: reacting 1, 2, 3, 4-tetrachlorobutane with a fluorine gas to yield a reaction product comprising 1, 2, 3, 4-tetrachlorohexafluorobutane and a hydrogen-containing compound as an impurity; and distilling the reaction product through one or more distillation columns to separate the hydrogen-containing compound from the reaction product, thereby yielding 1, 2, 3, 4-tetrachlorohexafluorobutane in a purified form, wherein at least one of the distillation columns has 15 or more theoretical plates.
