Apparatus and method for mounting component

A component mounting apparatus is provided with a transfer apparatus which holds a substrate in substantially upright posture by suction and transfers the substrate in the planar direction of the substrate; and a plurality of operation apparatuses which perform operation to a mounting region on an end section of the substrate, which is in substantially upright posture and received from the transfer apparatus. Each operation apparatus is provided with a substrate holding section which holds the substrate in substantially upright posture by suction; a holding section lifting apparatus which shifts the substrate held by suction to a lower operating position; a receiving member which supports, from the rear side, the end section of the substrate aligned with the operating position; and an operation unit which performs operation to the mounting region on the end section of the substrate aligned with the operating position from the front side.
