Packet traffic control system

A traffic control system comprising a sensor (CS) for detecting a vehicle on the road, an indicator (VI) indicating the running speed for a vehicle on the road, a means (104) for detecting a vehicle train ranging with a predetermined inter-vehicle distance, a packet formation control means (106) designating the running speed to form a packet having predetermined length of vehicle train and inter-vehicle train distance for a vehicle on the road, a packet running control means (108) designating the running speed such that the packets from respective directions can pass an intersection efficiently, and a means (114) interlocked with a packet arriving at the intersection under control of the packet running control means to control a signal. Since a speed designation is delivered to a vehicle on the road and the vehicle runs to form a packet having predetermined length of vehicle train and inter-vehicle train distance, a traffic control system which can reduce useless acceleration/deceleration, can reduce environm
