The present invention provides an elevator and a position detection apparatus thereof. In the position detection apparatus of the elevator, it is capable of detecting early aging of a detector conveniently by using a photo-electric detector and a board to be detected which are arranged oppositely. The detector is a photo-electric range measurement type detector. Furthermore, in the board to be detected for obtaining an output of detecting the early aging, a surface to be detected for detecting early performance aging is arranged on a position far from a surface to be detected for detecting the position of the elevator car by a certain distance in a horizontal direction, and the surface to be detected is made of material with different reflection indexes or is coated by paint with different reflection indexes to make the output of the surface to be detected and the output of the surface to be detected for detecting the position of the elevator car to form a difference.
