The magnetic head check apparatus of the invention checks the write track width of a film magnetic head as early as possible during the manufacturing step. A record signal (signal for excitation) is input from a solder pad to a rectangular state film magnetic head, and the magnetic field generated by a record head (element) included by the film magnetic head is directly observed by using a magnetic force microscope (MFM), a scanning type Hall probe microscope (SHPM) or a scanning type magnetoresistive effect microscope (SMRM) for scanning moving at a position equivalent to the suspension height of the magnetic head, such that not the physical shape of the record head (element) but the shape of the magnetic field is measured, thus non-destructively checking the magnetic effective track width.
