A semiconductor light emitting device (100) comprises a mounting member (130) and a semiconductor light emitting element (110) arranged on the mounting member (130). This mounting member (130) is constituted to include a substrate (131), an electrode portion (a positive electrode (134), a negative electrode (135) and bumps (140 - 144)) arranged on the upper face of the substrate (131) and having direct contact with the semiconductor light emitting element (110), and a reflecting portion (132) arranged on the upper face of the substrate (131) and having no direct contact with the semiconductor light emitting element (110) and the electrode portion. The semiconductor light emitting element thus provided is enabled to emit an output light efficiently to the outside by using a material of high reflectivity, no matter whether or not that material is suited for the electrode.
