The invention concerns a method for automatic restart, characterized in that it consists in seizing at least one strand (5) derived from a die using gripping means; moving the gripping means up to drawing means (13), said drawing means being adapted to bring said strand (5) at a drawing speed compatible with a cutting operation performed upon the passage of said strand between an anvil wheel (9) and a cutting wheel (8) of a cutting machine (7); modifying the path of the strand (5) between the die and the drawing means (13) using transfer means (18), said transfer means (18) being adapted to cause the strand (1) to pass between the anvil wheel (9) and the cutting wheel (8) using engagement means (20) or inversely to space apart the anvil wheel and the cutting wheel.
