A network system based on a remote UI(User Interface) protocol and a method thereof, and a recording medium storing a program performing the method are provided to use an input device of an RUI(Remote User Interface) client as a pointing device without adding an additional function to the RUI client not supporting the pointing device function, by providing a virtual pointing device service between the RUI client and an RUI server. When virtual pointing device support is requested from the client, the server transmits pointing device user interface information to the client. Whenever pointing information is received from the client, the server updates the position information on the ground of the received pointing information and generates pointing device user interface information according to the position information of the updated pointing device and then transmits the pointing device user interface information to the client.
