Zusammenfassung:	A method and system for authenticating print media (12) includes providing a digital memory (14) physically associated with a holder (10) of print media, and storing data in the digital memory, which data is adapted to be authenticated to allow use of the print media. In a preferred embodiment the system and method are capable of detecting the print medium present in a printer and adjusting printing characteristics of a printer with respect to the specific print medium present.
