Well tolerated aqueous insect repellent gel for skin protection, containing carbomer, polyoxyethylene hydrogenated castor oil, denatured ethanol and citronella and geranium essential oils

A gel (I) for protection against insects comprises (by weight) (a) 0.5-2% carbomer, (b) 2-4 % polyoxyethylene hydrogenated castor oil, (c) 30-50% denatured ethanol suitable for cosmetic use, (d) 0.5-2% citronella essential oil, (e) 0.5-2% geranium essential oil, (f) perfume (as required), (g) 0.2-1.5% triethanolamine and (h) water to 100%. An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of (I), comprises: (i) introducing the water (h) into a mixer; (ii) adding (a) under stirring; (iii) homogenizing to give a clear solution; (iv) adding (b) under continued stirring; (v) adding (c), (d) (e) and (f) under stirring; (vi) adding (g); and (vii) mixing thoroughly.
